HONOLULU (May 19, 2026) — JERA Americas Inc. announced today that its subsidiary, Longboard TerminalCo LLC, or Longboard LNG, has submitted a request to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to initiate the prefiling process for a proposed liquefied natural gas import terminal offshore Kalaeloa (Barbers Point), Oʻahu, Hawaii, and related onshore natural gas interconnection facilities within Campbell Industrial Park.
The proposed project would provide a near-term supply of natural gas to support Oʻahu’s energy
transition goals, including affordability, reliability and emissions reduction. Longboard LNG anticipates that annual LNG demand from power generation, industrial facilities, retail gas customers and LNG bunkering will peak at approximately 1 million metric tons per year across various sectors including LNG for power generation, gas distribution and marine fuel bunkering operations.
FERC regulates the siting, construction, operation and maintenance of LNG terminals. State agencies, including the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources and the Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands, retain authority over submerged lands and required state permits. The prefiling process facilitates early and transparent coordination with FERC, federal agencies, state and local regulators and community stakeholders. Longboard LNG’s prefiling request is available in FERC’s eLibrary under Docket No. PF26-10. Longboard LNG expects to file its full application for this project with FERC by December 2026.
